SUGAR LAND, TX — Fort Bend County Republican Party Chairman Bobby Eberle issued the following statement on the crisis at America’s southern border and the need to completely close the border after Border Patrols agents have been involved in over 10,000 apprehensions for three days in a row.

“Since Joe Biden was sworn into office, America has seen an unprecedented surge in illegal immigration. What was first labeled as “seasonal” by the media and the Democrats has now exploded into hundreds of thousands of illegal border crossings every month and millions in just the last two years. For the third day in a row, Border Patrol agents have topped 10,000 migrant apprehensions.

“The only sensible course of action is to temporarily and completely close the border. With a one-year moratorium on immigration, our Republican and Democrat officials must come up with solutions that work. Right now, we are seeing Democrats blatantly promote open borders, and the results have been devastating (FY 2021-2023): 37,200 lbs of methamphetamine seized; 4,600 lbs of fentanyl seized; 5 million Border Patrol encounters; 1.4 million Gotaways; 1,429 gang apprehensions; 85,000 missing migrant children who are likely being abused and trafficked.

“Our elected officials have a constitutional requirement to defend our border and protect the residents of Texas and the citizens of America. An actual plan must include: one-year moratorium on immigration (close the border), secure the border, pass e-verify, reform the asylum process, and implement ‘remain in Mexico.’ These are only a few measures, but they are the first steps we must take if we are serious about protecting American citizens.”
