SUGAR LAND, TX — Fort Bend County Republican Party Chairman Bobby Eberle issued the following statement on the impeachment of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

“Texas House members were asked to approve the impeachment of Attorney General Ken Paxton based on the following: no direct witness testimony presented to House members; no cross examination by the accused or his team; and no opportunity for the accused to testify.

“In addition, unlike past impeachment proceedings, Texas House members were given only forty-eight hours to review the resolution and observe one public hearing that involved no witnesses (only people who talked to witnesses). No Republican should have voted for impeachment based on how this process was conducted.

“I applaud the twenty-three House members who voted against impeachment and stood up for what is right. Texas Republicans must represent the highest levels of fairness, thoroughness, and justice. Those concepts were not served with this hasty impeachment vote.”
