Reports raise questions about political relationships, handling of public corruption investigations, and domestic-violence prosecution decisions.

FORT BEND COUNTY, TX — Two investigative reports released this week by Wayne Dolcefino of Dolcefino Media have raised significant questions about the conduct and decisions of Fort Bend County District Attorney Brian Middleton and his office.

The reports, A Compromised DA: The Betrayal, released October 14, and A Compromised DA: Middleton’s Mess, released October 16, examine recorded conversations, electronic messages, political relationships, and prosecutorial decisions involving Middleton and other Fort Bend County officials.

Among the most significant revelations are recorded conversations between Middleton and former county official Taral Patel, who was prosecuted in connection with deceptive social media posts impersonating other individuals and containing racist messages.

In one recorded conversation presented by Dolcefino, Middleton discusses a post referring to him as “Brainless Middleton.” Middleton has denied knowing that Patel was responsible for the deceptive posts and disputes allegations that he participated in the scheme.

The investigation also presents messages and statements raising questions about the knowledge and involvement of other public officials, including when the District Attorney’s Office became aware of the activities and whether all relevant allegations were fully investigated.

Middleton’s office has denied allegations of prosecutorial misconduct, and a judge previously rejected an effort to disqualify him from a related prosecution.

“The people of Fort Bend County deserve to know that their justice system operates without political favoritism,” said Greg Barnes, Chairman of the Fort Bend County Republican Party. “These investigative reports raise questions that deserve clear and documented answers. What did public officials know about the fake racism scheme, when did they know it, and was everyone involved investigated under the same standards? The public deserves access to the facts, regardless of anyone’s political affiliation.”

The reports also examine Middleton’s political relationships, including communications involving Patel and the Soros family. They raise questions about whether personal or political relationships affected prosecutorial decisions, although the reporting does not independently establish that such influence occurred.

Domestic-Violence Case Raises Additional Questions

Dolcefino’s first investigation examines the case of Coralyn Hunt, who reported violence involving her former boyfriend, Anthony Haywood, in January 2023.

According to the report, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office sought family-violence charges against Haywood, but prosecutors directed that the matter be submitted as a Class C misdemeanor.

Approximately 15 months later, Haywood murdered Hunt. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

The report includes an interview with Hunt’s mother, Veda Chambers, who questions whether a different response to the earlier allegations could have changed the outcome.

The investigation also features research presented by Shawn McDonald, Republican candidate for Fort Bend County District Attorney, alleging substantial increases in the rejection of misdemeanor domestic-violence complaints and raising concerns about the handling of strangulation cases.

Those statistical claims warrant verification through official prosecution records, including the reasons cases were rejected or dismissed and the outcomes of cases accepted for prosecution.

“A District Attorney has an extraordinary responsibility to victims, defendants, and the entire community,” said Shawn McDonald, Republican candidate for Fort Bend County District Attorney. “Every charging decision must be based on the evidence and the law, and every victim deserves to have their case treated seriously. The circumstances surrounding Coralyn Hunt’s earlier report of abuse, along with the questions raised about domestic-violence prosecution practices, deserve careful examination. Public confidence requires consistent standards, sound prosecutorial judgment, and accountability for the decisions made by the office.”

Questions Requiring Public Answers

The Fort Bend County Republican Party calls for a transparent accounting of the issues raised in the investigations, including:

  • When did Middleton and his office first learn of Patel’s deceptive social media activities?
  • What do the complete recordings, messages, and investigative records establish about the knowledge or involvement of other public officials?
  • Were political relationships appropriately disclosed and potential conflicts of interest evaluated?
  • What evidence and legal considerations led prosecutors to recommend a Class C misdemeanor in the earlier Coralyn Hunt case?
  • How do the office’s domestic-violence charging, rejection, dismissal, and conviction statistics compare with those of the previous administration?

The Party calls for the release of records that can lawfully be disclosed, a documented explanation of the relevant prosecutorial policies, and appropriate independent review of any substantiated allegations of misconduct.

The public should not be asked to accept either allegations or denials without an opportunity to examine the underlying evidence.

The justice system must operate under the same standards for everyone, regardless of political connections, public office, or personal relationships.
