SUGAR LAND, TX – The Fort Bend County Republican Party by a unanimous vote of the executive committee has adopted a resolution urging all Texas House Republican Representatives to unite behind the Texas House GOP Caucus’s nominee for Speaker, State Rep. David Cook of Tarrant County. The resolution underscores the importance of respecting the caucus’s vote to uphold Republican priorities, supporting the Republican Party Texas platform, and preventing Democrat interference in the selection of the next Speaker of the Texas House.
“Any attempt by Republican State Representatives to ally with Democrats to elect a Speaker who is not the duly-elected nominee of the House Republican Caucus undermines our Party’s integrity and legislative priorities,” said Bobby Eberle,
Chairman of the Fort Bend County Republican Party. “The Fort Bend County GOP stands firmly behind caucus nominee State Rep. David Cook and calls for transparency and unity among Republican Representatives.”
The resolution specifically calls on Fort Bend County Republican Reps. Gary Gates, Stan Kitzman, and Rep.-elect Matt Morgan to publicly disavow any participation in efforts to support a Speaker candidate other than a candidate for Speaker selected by the Party caucus. Additionally, the resolution warns that a vote for a House Rule allowing a secret ballot in the Speaker election would be considered a breach of Party principles and could subject the offending State Representative to censure under Republican Party of Texas Rule No. 44.
The Fort Bend County Republican Party remains committed to advancing the conservative agenda, including school choice, ending taxpayer-funded lobbying, and stopping the practice of appointing Democrat chairs to House committees.
