SUGAR LAND, TX – Fort Bend County Republican Party Chairman Bobby Eberle issued the following statement in response to sitting Democrat Judge Tameika Carters’ racist comments directed at Republican candidates and the Republican Party at large.
“As recorded on video and covered by local media, Democrat Judge Tameika Carter pulled from the same failed playbook used by Democrats KP George and Taral Patel — both now indicted on fake racism charges — to weaponize race for political gain, influence an election, and brand Republicans as racist.
“During a recent candidate forum, Judge Carter told the audience, ‘These Republicans from the top to the bottom, we know what they stand for. When I tell you that their tough-on-crime philosophy means locking as many of us up as possible, that is what they run on, and that is what they do.’ These inflammatory and baseless comments have no place in a county as richly diverse as Fort Bend. We are a community that thrives on unity, not division.
“What happened to the philosophy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who urged all of us to judge people by the content of their character and not the color of their skin? For Fort Bend County Democrats, it appears that their only strategy is to stoke racial tensions. Judge Carter’s comments are shameful, divisive, and have no place in our political discourse.
“I urge the Fort Bend County Democrat Party to denounce these comments immediately. I call on Judge Tameika Carter to issue a public apology to the Fort Bend County Republican Party, and most importantly, to every resident of our great and diverse county. We deserve better than this kind of toxic politics.”
