What does a Precinct Chair do?
The foundation of our party is built upon a steadfast group of volunteers named precinct chairs. These individuals in conjunction with our committee leads and chairman create the Executive Committee which manages the county party ensuring diligence and integrity. We’re looking for dedicated volunteers and community members to join this team as a precinct chair as we continue the Republican Party! Will you join us? The following sections review policies and protocols for prospective precinct chairs.
STEP ONE: Find Your Precinct
In order to identify your precinct you’ll need to click on Fort Bend County’s Precinct Tool. This is a county site and thus it is a secure place for you to put your information. You’ll provide your first and last name and other items if prompted. If you are not a registered voter you may experience issues.

STEP TWO: Understanding the Precinct Chair Position
First and foremost, make sure you are a registered voter who has voted in Republican Primaries or signed an oath of affiliation with the party. If you are running for office or hold an elected position you are not eligible to be a chair at that time.
A Precinct Chair collaborates with their Republican neighbors in the precinct, promotes Republican candidates and events, and works to grow the Republican vote in their area. Their leadership scope includes recruiting volunteers, organizing block walks (door to door) to canvass and distribute campaign materials, phonebanking, phoning from home, and encouraging neighbors to vote. A precinct chair may be expected to serve as an election judge, or to recruit someone who can serve. The precinct chair also convenes the Republican precinct convention after the Primary Election.
STEP THREE: Determine if Your Precinct has a Vacancy
The filing season is from mid September until 6PM on the second Monday in December of each odd numbered year. During the filing period anyone can file to be a Precinct Chair; even if the vacancy is currently filled. If there are multiple applicants in the same voting precinct then the primary election determines the winner. The term is for two years. However, if outside the filing season then follow the steps below:
To determine if your precinct has an opening view our Precinct Chair Page, find your precinct, and see if there is a noted vacancy. Between Republican Primary Elections, chairs are inducted by appointment. This means the prospective chair’s application is reviewed by the Vacancy Committee Chair in conjunction with an interview and if all proceeds well a recommendation. If the applicant is approved by a majority of the Executive Committee with a quorum present, the applicant will be the new Precinct Chair for the remainder of the term.
However, precinct chairs are elected to a two-year term by primary election voters in their precinct in even numbered years. Appointments only occur in between this period. The open season for anyone to apply for a Precinct chair position is from.
STEP FOUR: Fill Out the Required Application and Forms
If within the open filing season then fill out the form, get it notarized, and email to email@example.com.If outside the filing season then the application will be reviewed by our Vacancy Committee and you will be contacted with the next steps. Make sure you provide contact information you consistently check. We look forward to reviewing your application!
