SUGAR LAND, TX – By a vote of 5-2, conservative members of the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees passed the “Parental Rights and Responsibilities” policy.
“The commitment by the majority of the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees to uphold parental rights and ensure the safety and dignity of all students is commendable,” said Bobby Eberle, Chairman of the Fort Bend County Republican Party. “Under immense pressure exerted by radical, leftwing activists, Trustees stood strong for policies supported by the vast majority of Fort Bend County residents.”
The policy mandates that school officials notify parents if a student requests to be identified by a different name or pronoun than the one assigned at birth, aligning with basic tenets of transparent communication between schools and families. Additionally, the policy ensures that students participate in athletic competitions and use facilities consistent with their biological sex, thereby safeguarding fairness and privacy.
Voting in favor of the “Parental Rights and Responsibilities” policy were the following:
- Kristin K. Tassin, Board President, Position 6
- Rick Garcia, Board Vice President, Position 3
- David Hamilton, Secretary, Position 7
- Sonya Jones, Position 5
- Adam Schoof, Position 2
“This vote should have been 7-0, and liberal board members should be ashamed for pushing for boys in girls’ locker rooms and hiding crucial information from parents,” Eberle added. “As school board elections are less than a month away, votes like this remind us all of how important it is to elected common sense conservatives in Fort Bend County.”
