SUGAR LAND, TX — On Tuesday, October 10, the Fort Bend County Republican Party’s County Executive Committee adopted a resolution in support of the Orange County Republican Party’s censure of State Rep. Dade Phelan.

The Orange County censure resolution outlined a number of grievances against Phelan, the current speaker of the Texas House, including Phelan’s appointment of Democrats to committee chairmanships, opposition to school choice legislation, and inaction on border security measures. Phelan’s efforts to impeach Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, although not referenced in the Orange County resolution, have also led to grassroots conservative outrage across the state.

“The Fort Bend County Republican Party sent a strong message of support for the censure of Dade Phelan with this resolution,” said Bobby Eberle, Chairman of the Fort Bend County Republican Party. “Texans often look at Washington, DC as an example of the weaponization of government, but we don’t have to look past our own state lines to witness egregious abuses of power in order to bring down political opponents.”

“Grassroots conservatives are speaking out in counties around Texas and sending a clear message: Republican legislators should focus on advancing conservative principles and legislative priorities rather than appointing Democrats to leadership positions and trying to bring down fellow Republicans,” Eberle added.

The Fort Bend County Republican Party is committed to the mission of limited government, lower taxes, fiscal accountability and personal freedom. Our goal is to grow the Republican Party in Fort Bend County by reaching new voters, to advance our platform of conservative principles, and to keep Fort Bend County headed in the right direction.
