Chairman Rick Miller opened the ceremony by welcoming the great turnout of Republicans and then introduced Pete Olson, candidate for Congressional District 22. After Pete talked briefly about his campaign, he introduced Senator Cornyn. The Senator spoke about the importance of the Republican voters in Fort Bend County to his and Pete Olson’s campaigns and to all of the local Republican candidates. He was thrilled about Senator McCain’s selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as the Vice President nominee. Senator Cornyn challenged the Republican Party in Fort Bend County to turnout a record vote in the November election.
Also in attendance were all of the local Republican candidates, including State Senator District 17 candidates Austen Furse, Grant Harpold and Joan Huffman; State Representatives Dr. John Zerwas (District 28) and Charlie Howard (District 26) and candidate Steve Host for State Representative District 27; 400th District Court Judge Cliff Vacek and 434th District Court Judge Jim Shoemake; County Commissioner Andy Myers (Precinct 3) and candidate Greg Ordeneaux for County Commissioner Precinct 1; and Fort Bend County Sheriff Milton Wright.
Additionally, attending the ceremony were 1st Court of Appeals Justice Laura Carter Higley and candidate Ed Hubbard and the 14th Court of Appeals Chief Justice Adele Hedges and Justices Jeff Brown and Bill Boyce.
Following the opening ceremony, teams went walking in three Precincts and talked with over 1200 voters. It was truly a great day for Republicans in Fort Bend County.
