“This month, we honor the contributions Asian Pacific Americans have made to our nation and more specifically to Fort Bend County,” said Chairman Gibson. “Throughout our county, Asian and Pacific Island Americans have helped make Fort Bend the best county in the USA by making significant contributions in every field, from arts and entertainment to science and technology, from public policy and service to business and military service. Americans of Asian and Pacific descent have provided the entrepreneurial talent and Texas pioneer spirit to help lead us to the top among places to live and do business in the country.”

“As the most ethnically diverse county in the United States, we have all learned to work shoulder to shoulder with our friends, neighbors and family. Together, we will continue to show we are not divided by race, creed, religion, country of origin or any other artificial barrier. We know how to work together to make our community strong, safe and prosperous.”

“Generations of Asian and Pacific immigrants have made Fort Bend County their home bringing with them different cultural histories and traditions. The Texas, Hispanic and American traditions blended with the Asian and Pacific cultures have made a rich new culture formed by living and working together.”

“I honor and respect those that have left their homeland to find a brighter future for themselves and their families. America, Texas and, especially Fort Bend County, is still the land of opportunity where hard work, dedication to community, public service and devotion to family will lead to financial and personal growth and advancement. I join with all in my Party in celebrating May as the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.”

Dear Fort Bend Republicans and friends,

Perhaps many of you have learned that my announcement after the Executive Committee last night that I was stepping down and moving on to explore other opportunities.

This was not an easy decision, but one that I prayed over for many months…but also one that I am at peace with in moving to other possibilities in my life.

Attached is a press release that explains the situation…please take a few minutes and read it.

What made this a very difficult decision is the fact that I have made so many great friends over the my time in service to our Party…and to all of you in Fort Bend County and throughout the great state of Texas…and now will not be in the same arena with you…but I will be supporting you every step of the way.

I want to thank everyone who has served with me as leaders of our Fort Bend Republican Party…to the officers who have been with me for the 4 years…to all of the Precinct Chairs who have worked hard to elect our Republican candidates…to our elected officials who have supported the Party and worked closely with us…and finally to the wonderful volunteers found in Republican clubs and from all walks of life who truly do make the difference in everything we do. All of you are very special to me and I will always be thankful for your service, superb work and friendship.

The people in the conservative Republican arena are the very best in what makes our Country great…and fully support the foundation of principles and values that clearly separate us from the other side. We must not lose these fundamental values and our support for the Constitution…but we are being pulled away from these pillars of strength every day. So I encourage each of you to remain strong in your actions to do the right things for the right reasons…to make the harder right decisions when faced with difficult issues…to remain steadfast in your support of the Constitution…and to never cease from standing up for our principles.

Our nation is under extreme attack, internally and externally. It will take more than a few of us to rise up and defend what we know to be true…protect and defend our liberty and freedoms…our very way of life and form of government. So my encouragement to each of you is to look closely at those who want to remove us from the “exceptionalism” that our nation has been known for…and to only put people in leadership positions who are there to truly serve the people and not be served…or who only want the positions for their own promotion or their own ego. We must have the right leaders who are willingly to sacrifice and take a stand…who will not be afraid to make the right decisions and do the right things for the right reasons…no matter what! These are the traits and actions of our Founding Fathers.

With great respect and admiration for our Party and all of you, Rick

Did you hear them?….The Herd Arrived!!

Stay Strong Conservative Republican – Stand-up, Show-up and Speak-up!!

Let’s Remember How We Got Here

The American public is so bombarded with news on a 24 hour cycle that we often quickly forget important lessons from very recent history. We are on the precipice of the Geithner-created debt ceiling deadline and are witnessing a pathetic, yet raging debate over how much deeper in the hole we are willing to go with too little focus on how we got in the hole in the first place. Let’s remember Mr Geithner’s predecessor, Hank Paulson, in 2008 imploring the previous president to pass the TARP bailout after allowing Lehman Brothers to fail due to the “moral hazard.” Mr Paulson correctly pointed out then that undesirable behaviors are certain to be repeated if the natural consequences of those actions are averted. This is a “moral hazard.”

In 2009 and 2010, the Democrat-controlled Senate chose not to fulfill their constitutional responsibility of passing a budget for over two years. Also in 2010 President Obama’s administration postponed any budgetary action beyond the November elections waiting for the report from an impressive bipartisan National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform led by former Senators Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles. They issued their report in December 2010, a mere 67 pages, yet none of their primary recommendations made it into the White House Budget submitted earlier this year. What a waste of time, talent, and treasure.

Now that we are compressed against a Treasury Department deadline our president goes on national television Monday night and attempts to scare the public into getting what he wants, more tax revenue and more debt to play with. I was deeply disappointed by his speech and Mr Geithner’s use of the word “catastrophic” if they don’t get their way. In 2011, the 70th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor in the president’s home state, he should remember the quote from then democratic president FDR, “We have nothing to fear but fear itself!”

Since it seems our president is fond of golf, perhaps a simple golf analogy can help him and our Congress understand what to do. In golf there are hazards just as there are “moral hazards” in business and government. When you hit into a hazard, let’s say a lake on the golf course, you have to take a penalty stroke and drop in an area where you improve your lie to increase your chance of hitting your next shot successfully into the fairway or on the green. I believe the American public is out of mulligans to give our government. We cannot trust them with more tax revenue until they demonstrate that they can steward the revenue they have much better. They need to take their penalty stroke now in the form of significant government spending cuts. They need to drop in the drop zone to improve the country’s lie by reforming government actions that penalize business and stifle job growth. Only then can the resourceful, industrious and productive American people hit their next shot into the fairway on the global economic course where we play with the rest of the world.
